His 1991 seson was cut short due to a two-month prison stint, received for spraying CS gas on a London taxicab driver after a traffic altercation. His race seat was filled temporarily by then-unknown Michael Schumacher and later Alex Zanardi. He later lived in Spain & was involved in a number of businesses including marketing "Hype", a energy drink (CEO 2021), as well as running an F1 website, F1i.com. Bertrand was born in Luxenburg, began racing with a Belgium licence later with a Frenche and raced for many years under the European community banner, but he is of French nationality.
