Alan had a artificial lower right leg. Signed by Colin Chapman as a works driver with Lotus sports car team 1957-60. At the Belgian GP 1960 it is thought that Stacey was hit in the face by a bird, losing control of the car and suffering fatal injuries after being thrown out of the car when it hit a bank.
