Jo was working in Madagaskar for three years but came back to racing in Europé 1957. Had a big accident during pratice for the 1961 24h LeMans which left him with a badly broken arm and leg. Set up his own team with Guy Ligier to run McLarens 1968. In the opening laps of the 1968 French GP, Schlesser lost control of the car in pouring rain, crashed into an earth bank, and burst into flames, killing Jo swiftley.
