Jos was hospitalised following a bad crash in his first-ever kart race, 10 years old. In 1999 Jos became a Honda testdriver for their F1 comeback, but after Harvey Postlethwaite's death the proceedings stopped and Honda turned to the BAR team, wich they later bought. For 2004 Jos had talks with both Minardi, Arrows and Jordan.
2007 he again had talks with Minardi but now to race in the US ChampCars series, but they failed to reach an agreement. 2009-10 Jas has a column in De Telegraaf newspaper.
In 2009 he recived a suspended prison sentence of three month and was fined 1,650 euros for stalking his ex-whife and in Januari 2012 arrested on suspicion of deliberatly running a car into his ex-girlfriend.
2015 he was back in Formula 1, now following hes son Max in Toro Rosso
