Amati had a colourful childhood, including being kidnapped for ransom and managing to hide it from her parents for two years. 1991 she got a F1 test in a Benetton, courtesy of her then-partner Flavio Briatore. She has later moved into media, writing columns in Italian motorsport publications and television commentary.
